Overview |
OverviewThe Science Advisement office is here to support you through the advisement and registration process each semester. Beginning the second week of classes, you may make an appointment to review requirements, plan next semester's schedule, and do some long range planning. Tuesday of the 9th week of classes is when registration begins for the following semester. Making an early advisement appointment insures that you will be prepared to register early and have the best possible selection of classes and sections. Five departments within the College of Science require their students to meet with a faculty advisor before registering each semester. Remember that you have 8 weeks to do this if you want to be prepared to register early. After meeting with the department faculty advisor, you may then see your College of Science advisor to complete the advisement/registration process. These departments with their locations and phone numbers are: Chemistry and Biochemistry -Neckers C224 - phone 453-5721 Geology - Parkinson 102 - phone 453-3351 Mathematics - Neckers A360 - phone 453-5302 Physics - Neckers A483 - phone 453-2643 Plant Biology - Life Science II420 - phone 536-2331 The remaining departments within the college have faculty advisors who are available to talk with you regarding your major and career plans when you need assistance. It is suggested that you make an appointment with your faculty advisor during your freshman year or during your first semester if you are a transfer student. These departments with their locations and phone numbers are: Biological Sciences - Life Science II 368 - phone 536-2032 or 453-4211 Computer Science - Faner 2125 - phone 536-2327 Microbiology - Life Science II 131- phone 536-2349 Physiology - Life Science II 245 -phone 453-1544 Zoology - Life Science II 351 -phone 536-2314 If you are planning a career in a health profession, you have a special advisor within the Science Advisement office. She is a resource person who can answer questions and help plan curricula specific to your needs. She does not register you for classes as the other advisors in the office do. Her name, location, and phone number are: Gail Robinson - Neckers A185 -phone 536-2147 If you remain on good standing (2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale) you are not required to meet with a College of Science advisor each semester. It is strongly recommended, however, that you work out a long-range plan with an advisor and then meet at least once a year to double check progress. You may register using SalukiNet or with the aid of the Science Advisement staff in NeckersA185. If your overall SIUC grade point drops below a 2.0 you will be placed on academic probation. In this case, you MUST meet with a College of Science advisor to register. The advisor will help you plan a schedule of classes, which will increase your chances of academic success. University policy allows you to take no more than 14 credit hours any semester you are on probation. Seven hours are the maximum during the summer term. Graduating Seniors MUST meet with a College of Science advisor the SEMESTER BEFORE their intended graduation to complete a GRADUATION CLEARANCE. Students must also apply for graduation in the Office of Admissions and Records by Friday of the first week of their last semester. | |
