Biological Sciences Program Scholarships

Below are two importatnt links and descriptions of the scholarships available to undergraduate and graduate students in good standing with a major in Biological Sciences at SIUC. These scholarships are funded from donations made to the scholarship fund by Biological Sciences alumni and from special donations to the scholarship endowment. These awards, which average from $400 - $500 each, are presented annually at the University Honors Day ceremony in April. Applications are available in the secratary's office or the application form may be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

Biological Sciences Alumni Sponsored Scholarships

These are awarded to students in biological sciences who demonstrate excellence in their academic pursuits. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are eligible for these awards. Usually, three to four of these are awarded anually.

Harvey Fisher Award in Biological Sciences. This scholarship is awarded in memory of Harvey I. Fisher who was a past Director of the Biological Sciences Program at SIUC and member of the Department of Zoology. It is presented to an undergraduate major in Biological Sciences with sophomore or junior standing who has demonstrated academic excellence.

John W. Voigt Memorial Scholarship in Biological Sciences. This scholarship is named in memory of the late Dr. John W. Voigt who was Director of the Biological Sciences Program and Professor of Plant Biology. Students of any rank in Biological Sciences with high academic achievements are eligible for this award.

Joan F. Knowles Memorial Scholarship in Biological Sciences. This award is presented to a Biological Sciences undergraduate who is also a pre-professional major and has outstanding academic achievement. This scholarship is in memory of a former pre-medical Biological Sciences major who was fatally injured in an automobile accident. In past years, two of these have been awarded.

Edwin C. Galbreath Memorial Award in Biological Sciences. This award is given to a graduate student in the Biological Sciences Program who has submitted an outstanding thesis or research report. It is in memory of Dr. Galbreath who was a long-time faculty member in the Department of Zoology and former Director of the Biological Sciences Program.

Leo Kaplan Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding sophomore or junior student majoring in the physical or biological sciences with a high grade point average and demonstrated financial need. This award is sponsored by the Inter-Greek Council.
