A native of New York, John F. Rabolt received his B.S. in Physics at the
State University of New York, Oneonta, New York, before coming to SIUC to
earn his Ph.D. in Molecular Science. After completing a postdoctoral
fellowship at the University of Michigan, John spent the next two years as a
National Research Council - National Academy of Sciences Research Associate
at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. He joined IBM in
1978 as a research staff member in the Polymer Science and Technology group
at IBM Research Division at Alamaden Research Center in San Jose, California, where he remained until 1996.
John's achievements in spectroscopy have earned him such awards as the 1985
Coblentz Award in Molecular Spectroscopy, the Williams-Wright Award in
Vibrational Spectroscopy in 1990, and the Ellis R. Lippincott Award in Molecular Spectroscopy in 1993. He will be the recipient of the A.E. Michelson Award in Vibrational Spectroscopy in 2000. In 1986 he was also named a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
