Dr. Ishman received his BS in Geology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He then received his MS and PhD in Geology from The Ohio State University where he specialized in late Cenozoic foraminiferal micropaleontology. Before becoming a faculty member in the Department of Geology, SIUC, he was a research geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, Reston, VA. His research interests include late Cenozoic paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic reconstructions using foraminifera. Dr. Ishman has participated on several scientific cruises to the Southern Ocean and has conducted fieldwork in Antarctica, Chile, New Zealand, South Florida and Chesapeake Bay. He is currently the Chairman of the U.S.A. Region of the International Society of Environmental Micropaleontologists, Microbiologists and Meiobenthologists (ISEMMM) and on the Nominations Committee for the Paleontological Society. Dr. Ishman is a member of the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research, American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, North American Micropaleontological Society and Sigma Xi.
