Nanotechnology

This was a two-part lab. The first part, featured in these photos, produced pristine metal oxide nanowhiskers grown from oxide powder in high temperature oven. The Chair provided an overview of departmental research, and participants learned about the fabrication and analysis of protective coatings for hip implants and optical coatings such as x-ray reflectors. Dr. Andrei Kolmakov explains some of the science and process of nanotechnology.
