Meet the Deadlines

  • Pace your work.
  • Most students who participate in JSHS are exceptional students and are heavily involved in many activities, both at school and in their community. In spite of all the other obligations that you have, you must pace your work in order to finish by the submission deadline. Don't procrastinate; good intentions will not get the work done. Rather, pace yourself so you finish within the allotted time period. Your teacher is not responsible for making sure that you are "on task." You must have a certain degree of self-motivation in order to complete your paper by the deadline. Are you a self-starter, or does your teacher have to nag you to meet deadlines? Are you willing to work and persistent when you meet obstacles? Do you have someone willing to help you? These are all important factors in pacing your work and meeting the deadline.
  • Allow time for proofreading.
  • It is best that you finish in sufficient time that your science teacher can review your paper, as well as an English teacher. Remember... you want the reviewers to have a good first impression when they review your paper. The rsearch might be original, of value, and very well done, but if the paper is poorly written, the reviewers can't tell what was done to evaluate your research. They aren't there to see all the hard work you have devoted to your research. A well-written paper is the best way to convey that to the reviewers.
