Paper Submissions |
Papers must be prepared according to the Guidelines for Preparation and Presentation of Student Research. The paper must be accompanied by:
A biographical sketch and photo must be submitted for students planning to make a paper submission. The bio and photo, along with the student's abstract, are printed in the program booklet that is distributed to all Symposium participants. |
Paper Review |
A committee of faculty at SIUC, as well as the Director, will review all submitted research papers, meet to discuss the merits of each paper, and select which students are to present at the Symposium. Note: The Symposium reserves the right to reject papers if guidelines are not followed. Papers that are resubmitted from a previous year must be substantially advanced or they will not be considered for presentation. Students who are not selected to make a paper presentation may be extended an invitation to present their research at the Poster Session. |
Sample Papers |
Raleigh Blasdell, a first-place finalist in both the 1999 Illinois and National JSHS, has given permission to post her paper, "The Longevity of the Latent Fingerprints of Children vs Adults," as a reference item for Illinois JSHS students and teachers. Raleigh's paper has recently been published: Blasdell, R. (2001). Policing: The International Journal of Police Strategy and Management, Vol 24, No 3, pp 363-370. Thank you, Raleigh!! Arun Thottumkara, a first-place finalist in both the 2003 Illinois and National JSHS, has given permission to post his paper, "Oxidation of Benzyl Ethers to Benzoate Esters Using a Novel Hypervalent Iodine Reagent," as a reference item for Illinois JSHS students and teachers.
