Illinois Junior Science
and Humanities Symposium

Travel

Funds for travel to and from the symposium are not available. Teachers are expected to transport students to and from the Symposium. Most teachers bring their students to Carbondale via cars or vans, but some travel to Carbondale by train and air.

Carbondale is served by Greyhound Bus (the bus stop is at the edge of campus), and by Amtrak (the station is 3 blocks north of campus). Air service is either direct to St. Louis (Lambert Field), or via TWA Express to Williamson County Airport, 13 miles east of Carbondale. BART Transportation and J & B Shuttle provide shuttle service from airports.

For those who drive, several interstate highways are near Carbondale. Interstates 57 and 24 are 18 miles east of Carbondale via Illinois Route 13. US Highway 51 runs directly through Carbondale. Interstate 64 is 45 miles north of Carbondale, and Interstate 70 crosses Illinois 90 miles north of Carbondale.
