Slide 01 (includes three separate specimens; three images below)



This slide includes three different tissue specimens, one with each of the three types of muscle. Smooth muscle forms the muscular outer layer of the intestine specimen. To distinguish the other two, note that skeletal muscle fibers are considerably larger in diameter and more distinct from one another than are cardiac muscle fibers.
