Garvey Lab Students at SIUC
Dawn Sechler
Dawn is a recent addition to our lab. She will likely be focusing her
research on the early life history of sturgeon in the Mississippi River.
Heather Calkins
Heather recently joined our lab and will likely be merging hydroacoustics with
Asian carp ecology in the rivers of the midwest. Stay tuned for her
accomplishments.
Quinton Phelps
Quinton is a PhD candidate interested in the ecology of river sturgeons in the
Middle Mississippi River and beyond. His research focuses on variation in
growth and recruitment across gradients and how populations respond to factors
such as harvest. Quinton also is active in inland, warmwater fisheries
research.
Sara Tripp
Sara is currently co-advised with Dr. Brooks Burr. For her masters
research, she is interested in the chronology of reproductive maturation in
shovelnose sturgeon in the Mississippi River. In addition, she using a variety
of techniques to identify spawning sites within the river including egg mats,
epibenthic sleds, and trawling.
Rob Colombo
Rob is a PhD candidate at SIUC interested in the response of catfish populations
to harvest in the Wabash River. Rob is exploring both demographic
responses and food web consequences. Rob recently completed his masters at
SIUC quantifying the maturational stages of adult shovelnose sturgeon and
describing the early ontogeny of offspring.
Adam
Lohmeyer
Adam's masters research revolves around the spatial and
temporal patterns of larval Asian carp production in the pools and open river of
the Mississippi River. He also is quantifying the recruitment success of
these species.
