Squamous cells, cell smear.

This slide was prepared by scraping the surface of a non-keratinized, stratified squamous epithelium, such as the lining of your cheek, with an implement such as the blunt end of a toothpick.  The resulting sample, slimy combination of mucus and living cells, is spread out on a slide and stained to produce a slide such as this.
